Germany 1926-1928 Documentary

How do we live healthily and economically?

Cultural film series in originally nine parts, which could be put together in modular form as needed: With the participation of Walter Gropius, Bruno Taut, Ernst May, Adolf Behne and Leberecht Migge, the films demonstrate principles and materials of New Building. Among other things, they provide insights into the newly built master houses in Dessau, where Ilse Gropius demonstrates the advantages of the modern kitchen with friends.

In Modern Times, Charlie struggles desperately against the monotony of his work on the assembly line of a machine factory. In one of his most famous scenes, Chaplin gets caught in an oversized gear train - and still dutifully turns the screws.

A biting satire on the soulless modern working world and the inhumanity of its machines.

Nosferatu – A Symphony of Horror

With NOSFERATU, Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau not only created one of the first precursors of the horror film genre and later Dracula adaptations, but also one of the multi-layered masterpieces of cinematic expressionism.

Knock, a realtor from Wisborg, sends his employee Thomas Hutter to Transylvania to negotiate a property deal with the sinister Count Orlok. When he arrives at the eerie castle, the occupant turns out to be a bloodthirsty shadowy creature...

Metropolis

In a future city, the workers rebel against the upper class. But they are reconciled by a substitute religion.

 

With METROPOLIS, Fritz Lang created one of the most elaborate films of the silent era and the first feature-length science fiction film, whose set, trick technology and special effects still inspire representatives of the genre today. After the collapse of the empire and the revolutionary unrest, the director's film allows industrial modernity to culminate in a dystopian version of the future. A reality dominated by technology, in which the free man is reduced to the servant of his own inventions, may have seemed alienating to most contemporary filmgoers, but it is not very far removed from our reality today.
